There’s a question I hear more often than almost any other: “Do we really need to be part of a local church?” Sometimes it comes from a young couple who have drifted away from their faith community after moving to our area. Sometimes it comes from a family exhausted by years of church-hopping, never quite finding the right fit. And sometimes it comes from parents who genuinely love Jesus but aren’t sure a Sunday morning service is worth the battle of getting four kids dressed and out the door. As the pastor of Heritage Church in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, my answer is always the same: Yes. And here’s why it matters more than you think. We present the full, life-changing truth of who Jesus is in a way that speaks directly into the world teenagers are actually living in — the pressures, the questions, the struggles, and the enormous potential of this season of life. Our student leaders genuinely like teenagers. They invest in them, laugh with them, challenge them, and walk with them through the hard moments. In Legacy Students, your teenager will build deep friendships rooted in faith. They’ll be challenged to wrestle with the Word and come out transformed — not just carrying their parents’ beliefs, but owning a faith that is truly their own. That is our heartbeat for every student who walks through our doors. Teaching That Opens the Word Every Sunday at Heritage Church, I bring the best I have to offer from God’s Word. Not motivational talks dressed up in Bible verses — but real, substantive, Scripture-rooted teaching that is honest about the hard questions and applied to the real life you’re actually living. My goal is simple: that you leave every week not just feeling good, but knowing something. That you walk out equipped, strengthened, and ready to live differently because the truth of God’s Word got into you.
